The Sanctuary

Rooted in Siwa Oasis, Irane Gagben is a house shaped by the land and the elements — a place for rest, presence, and creativity.

Built from karshif, the traditional Siwi technique formed from an amalgam of rock salt, sand, and mud, and held together with palm wood, the house carries the material memory of the oasis itself. For centuries, this natural architecture has shaped the dwellings of Siwa, allowing homes to breathe with the desert climate — cool in the heat of the day and warm during the desert nights.

Our home, where the stays are hosted by co-founder Maxine, is located in a quiet residential area of Siwa, just a five-minute walk from the centre square, yet slightly removed from its movement. Here, the everyday sounds of the oasis unfold gently — the palm leaves in the wind, birds at sunrise, and the quiet hum of evening life.

Irane Gagben welcomes only one or two guests at a time, allowing the space to remain intimate, attentive, and calm.

Within the house, each space carries its own atmosphere, offering different invitations throughout the day. The sanctuary is held as a place that is safe, grounded, and alive, where presence, creativity, and rest can naturally unfold.

The Landing

The Landing welcomes arrival — a threshold between the outer world and the interior of the house, where one can pause and gently transition into the space.

The Heart Room

At the centre of the home is the Heart Room, a warm and grounding space for rest and shared moments. Mornings here are filled with soft sunlight, while evenings often gather around the fire.

The Common Table

Nearby, the Common Table becomes a place of nourishment and exchange — for meals, conversation, reading, or creative work, where ideas and presence meet.

Sky Terrace

Above the house, the Sky Terrace opens to sun, wind, and stars. From here the horizon of the oasis unfolds, inviting movement, meditation, creation, or simply quiet moments of gazing into the landscape.

The Nest

Tucked within the house is The Nest, a light-filled and intimate room with a double bed and private bathroom, offering a peaceful space for rest.

Garden & Farm

Beyond the house, our garden and small farm lie on a narrow peninsula surrounded by the lake, with open views toward the mountains. Here, the wider landscape of Siwa unfolds — water, palms, desert, and sky meeting along a quiet and expansive horizon.
